i had heard about grand finale having a good brunch before and it has been on my list for a while. i had not been yet because 1) it is far (glendale); 2) it is expensive (relatively); and 3) i had heard there were long waits. but last night laura absolutely had to have their apple cobbler and i was happy to go along for the ride.
grand finale has a really interesting decor, it is like an old farmhouse with all kinds of decorations like those old tin signs, old toys, pictures, etc. it is cluttered without being too annoying somehow. the crowd is mostly old people and families. almost everyone (besides us of course) was dressed up... lots of khakis and ties. it was hilarious to me because i think it is funny to dress up for dinner in general unless you are going somewhere really classy, and i would not exactly call the grand finale classy.
i guess i felt that it was kind of what you would think was a nice restaurant if you had never actually been to a nice restaurant. but that is not to say that i didn't like it. i did because i felt like it was classic kitschy cincinnati. very local.
we only went there for desserts but it actually made sense because as laura said (which i was unable to figure out on my own), it is called grand finale because of its desserts. i think the pictures tell all:
now i am not a big sweets person. i much prefer a steak to a cake. so i don't get that excited about desserts. however, at grand finale, everything was awesome and i loved it all. i think i might have liked the lemon raspberry cheesecake the best- it was sooooo lemony and sharp and delicious. the fruit flavors were very strong and it was not too heavy or cheesy like some cheesecakes can be. but they were all excellent. the service was great too.
i can't speak to the rest of the menu but i definitely recommend grand finale for flippin sweet (haha... get it... sweet) desserts, assuming you are up for an old-ish crowd and a quirky atmosphere.
