internet anonymity and the return of the flat iron steak

i just got off the phone with liberal foodie, who happens to be an actual, real-life friend of mine who i did not meet on the internet. we were chatting while she was driving home from work and i was killing time while marinating that damn flat iron steak (which i never got around to cooking and had to freeze) in the following marinade (made up based on several internet recipes):

flat iron steak marinade

1/4 c. red wine (i used red zinfandel)
2 T. olive oil
lots of garlic, minced
1 t. rosemary
1 t. Colman's mustard
fresh ground pepper
a little bit of salt

anyway, we got onto the topic of what we will and will not reveal on our blogs. liberal foodie does not want anyone to know her real name or what she looks like. obviously i don't care about that, but i do have a few topics which i consider totally off limits and never talk about on this blog:

liz's taboo topics
  • my job
  • my specific location in cincinnati
  • my relationship status
  • my family (other than cute pics of them eating cake or sushi)
yes readers, talking about these things on my blog would make me feel overly exposed here on the internet, yet i have no problem keeping you posted with regular updates about my gastrointestinal health.

reader poll: what information is off limits about you on your blog and why?

Re: blog limits, my full name. Just not a good idea to fling that around. Also, I will not post head on pictures of myself or my friends. Usually. ;o)

umm yeah, I am totally shady and secretive. No name, no pictures. VERY vague about my job. Somewhat vague about where I live.

I don't know why I'm so weird about it, maybe my job, but I have no problem with other people sharing lots!

I don't reveal The Boyfriend's identity besides that he's a teacher whose name is Terry. There aren't any pictures of him on the blog (though they're not hard to find). I just don't advertise, and his last name isn't on there.

As for me, I used to be private about where I worked until half of our company figured out who I was anyways. I do a lot of public stuff, so... ta da.

I also refuse to talk about sex or anything sexually related. Except for that Paula Deen video. But that was her talking about sex. And *embarrassing*.

You know how I feel so I guess no need to get too detailed. One thing is for certain, I worry that once the local restaurants know who I am, they'll give me biased treatment on service and food. And I prefer to be treated like any other joe six-pack.

@liberalfoodie I think the only people, restaurant-wise, who actually know me are people who are no longer at Lavomatic, the chef and maitre d at Seny, and the staff of Oceanaire. No one else does, and that's how I like it.

My full name (I think--I'm not too careful about referring to my relatives as "grandma LastName" so maybe it's obvious). And the names of students who are annoying me today.

I don't put my school identity on there either, although it might also be obvious.
