Re: it's a holiday letter!

Quite a holiday update. You're coming in on December 30, right? Do you have time for lunch on December 31?

I'd rather give you my tots, but I'll go with option A for the good karma.

Take a look at the menus and tell me where you'd rather go. If we go to Telepan, it should be for brunch on January 4, if we choose Bouley, that can be on the 31st. If you can't decide, I will.

Alright, if it's my choice, let's go with Bouley. It edged out Telepan for the best meal I've had in the city, and it's been consistently good each time I've gone. I made a reservation for the 31st at 1 PM.

A jacket is required for men, just to give you an idea of what to wear.

You can probably wear whatever you want, so long as it's not a t-shirt. They are very laid back and polite, considering what kind of restaurant it is.

Anything in particular you wanted to do while you're here?

That's fine, but I will NOT eat with anyone who engages in flash photography at a restaurant.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

do you have a camera that will take good photos w/out a flash?

i have problems. alex is taking me out to eat at bouley and all i can think about is whether i get to take pictures! oh, the trials and tribulations of being a food blogger...

Please, can we have more comments with spammy commercial advertisements in them? Can we can we can we? pretty please?

Or more useless negative comments like this one? :-)

(full disclosure: I read this site religiously with the hopes of finding a good deal on car insurance. Thank God for "Susan"'s comment.

Wear the bridesmaid dress.

Liz, if the restaurant isn't real dark, turn your flash off and turn on your macro.

I'm looking forward to your review!

How to take flashless pics in low light:

Take the closest thing you have to a mini beanbag that will fit in your purse/bag. An example of something close to a mini beanbag is a ziploc sandwich bag half-filled with sand, sugar or salt.

This is your camera support. Set the camera on the bag, keep it steady, and take the shot.

Also, if your camera has a setting called Aperture Priority, turn it on and set the aperture on the lowest number.
