earlier today i posted about the cincinnati post that chicago carless wrote. i liked his post so much that i checked out the rest of his blog. then i came across this post with some of his thoughts on living in, and leaving, new york, which totally resonated. then we had the following comment exchange:
Thanks liz! Where would you like your steaks sent?
For me, the people make–or break–a place. That’s why my heart belongs to warm-hearted Lisbon, Portugal instead of aggressively bitchy Paris, France.
That can also explain my affinity for Chicago and Cincinnati over Gotham. And when I spent summer 2007 going back and forth to my hometown considering a job offer there (check my backstory and NYC and me categories), I had the EXACT SAME FEELING of woe for old friends and the boxes they inhabited as you did.
i’m totally google reader-ing you. i can’t wait to read your thoughts re: NY. seriously, this has been a huge thing on my mind for days now and it could not come at a better time to have someone else’s perspective… most of my friends who have never lived there don’t get it, and most of my friends who have lived there still live there.

Blogs are awesome! That's why I have 3.5 of them and counting....
And have you realized, much as I did last year, that somehow on a blog, you can write paragraph after paragraph about something like politics (or in your case, Bouley, LOL), but remember in college when we had to write 4 page papers, how much it sucked? I just think it's funny that I happily write giant blog posts but if you force me to write something, I can't stand it....
I recently started my (3rd? 4th?) blog, and I must say it's hella fun. Broadcasting your thoughts and opinions and forming connections with people all over the world is an amazing high!

hahaha, i totally agree! when i had to write shit in college i would sit there until 2 am in front of the computer trying to eke out a few sentences. but i guess blogging is more like gossiping or chatting about whatever you feel like. plus i don't have to footnote.
Thanks, first, for the link to the Chicagocarless site. Until I inherited granny's 89 Hoopty, I've been carless for most of the last 15 years.
And as much as I have dreams about leveraging my blog into some sort of bacon-empire, I just get a kick out of knowing people are, in even a small way, interested in what I have to say. You know?
BTW, glad you're "back." And your Zingerman's post made me homesick.
thanks jeff, it is good to be back! although the break was good too. by the way, i am currently gnawing my arm off after reading your post about brining... oh my god yum.
