boeuf bourguignon

a couple weeks ago, on the exact same day, two of my friends who do not know each other and live in different parts of the country decided to make julia childs' boeuf bourguignon (aka beef burgundy) and then posted about it on facebook. it was too much for me... i had to have it. but when was i going to find the time to make it? well due to the snow terror that hit cincinnati today, i got let out of work at noon. an afternoon free and nobody at the grocery store meant that the stars had aligned for me and the boeuf. the recipe is here in case you, like me, are too poor to invest in your own copy of mastering the art of french cooking.

the recipe is perfect and if it were not for my own personal issues (unreliable oven, lack of a deep enough casserole dish, being dumb enough to not realize that you can't put a plastic lid on top of a pyrex dish while it is in the oven) the dish would have been flawless. as it is, even with the overcooked onions and the disproportionate wine to beef stock ratio, my boeuf was the shit. i made garlic mashed potatoes to go along with it and it is the best meal i have made in a long time.

i don't have much else to add so here is the whole 5 hour ordeal in photos...

it came out delicious. it took forever but it was definitely worth it. and now i will have tasty boeuf for days.

Looks yummy! The pictures are really good, too. Did you get a new camera, or are you using different lights?

I love this dish. It's sooo easy to make. I've also added a secret ingredient.
