as it turns out, the UC bearcat does not have a name. i was thinking it was bucky, but then i realized that bucky is the name of the wisconsin badgers' mascot. and then i was wondering what is the difference between a badger and a bearcat, and now you are getting too far into my brain and that is a scary place. run!
anyway, so i started looking up other mascots and it turns out wikipedia has an article dedicated to just that! i am now laughing my ass off over some of the information i have unearthed:
- Colonel Ebirt - the costumed mascot of the College of William & Mary Tribe. The name "Ebirt" is "Tribe" spelled backwards and is a green blob dressed in colonial garb.
- Klawz Da Bear — the costumed bear of the University of Northern Colorado.
- WuShock — an anthropomorphic shock of wheat; the mascot of Wichita State University.
- Bill the Goat — United States Naval Academy live goat and costumed mascot
- Peruna — A Shetland Pony who represents the Southern Methodist University Mustangs
- Purple Cow — the gold-spotted gender-confused mascot of Williams College
- Tim the Beaver — the mascot of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Seymour D'Campus — costumed mascot of Southern Miss Golden Eagles
- Cubby — the second mascot of Brown University. It is a young, hat wearing bear appealing to young children.
- Herky the Hornet - the costumed hornet mascot of Sacramento State
- Mario the Magnificent Dragon — the official mascot of the Drexel Dragons
- Gaylord- the Camel mascot of Campbell University
