1. city barbeque (delicious and second only to sam the cooking guy's ribs)
2. montgomery inn (good texture and juicy but i think the sauce is too sweet and bland)
3. pit to plate (tough, dry, not enough sauce)
i have a bone to pick (get it? bone to pick? ribs? hahaha. sorry.) with pit to plate because the guy was like "the ribs can be hit or miss but they are really good today." ok a) your ribs should not be hit or miss and b) if this was a hit, i don't want to try a miss.
i also tried the "best damn dish" which was arloi dee's chicken lettuce wraps. readers, this is not the best damn dish in cincinnati. it's not even close. pf chang's serves much better lettuce wraps. and there are so many other better things to eat in this city. i will cut them a little slack since i am sure the food at taste is not as good as what is served in the restaurant but still the sauce was just peanutty and boring. no spice, no flavors other than peanut, blah.
and that is all i ate at taste. i am poor so i ate before i went so i would not spend a lot of money. feel free to leave comments about all the delicious food i missed out on.

city bbq definitely had the best marketing strategy with the buck a bone ribs (although, I got two bones for my buck, so bonus). and they were better than they were when i had them there.
i've heard a ton of people praise pit-to-plate, but when i went there, was not impressed.
and i said the same thing about the lettuce wraps.
the best thing i may have had was the drunken noodle from bankok bistro
also good was bella luna's chicken ravioli
and what i meant when i wrote "they were better than they were when i had them there" what was meant was they were better at taste than when i ordered them at the actual city bbq...
I had some Pit to Plate ribs yesterday, and they were saucy and delicious. I normally get their pulled pork, which can be really good or really watery. Hit or miss.
Love City Barbecue.
I didn't have lettuce wraps at Taste; I had them at the restaurant itself, and they were good (and different). I can't imagine they'd hold up well in the heat (sort of like sushi).
We liked city BBQ the best as well. Eddie's was meh. Montgomery inn was consistently OK. We tried a lot of things on Saturday; this morning we had the Vitor's french toast and it was delicious. I thought their walnut coconut shrimp was not worth $5 for two, but it was good to try. David loved the Taz chicken kabob sandwich.
i try and get stuff i can't normally get - and yeah - i couldn't imagine lettuce wraps being THAT amazing...
my favorite was the bread pudding from bella luna - i'm not a fan of their other food but that's my favorite.
love your writing style.
greets.
I think BBQ is tough to do well in a temporary food operation. They have a whole system in place at their restaurants and it's hard to duplicate it in a tent. So I skip BBQ.
And based on years and years of experience stuffing my fat face, the same is pretty much true of every booth. The plain truth is that the food is just not that good at Taste. Luckily, the first thing I tried was the "award winning" jambalaya which convinced me that if this flawed dish won an award, then everything else would probably disappoint.
So I concentrated on beer, which was much, much better than the food.
hey guys, thanks for all the comments! sounds like everybody enjoyed themselves at taste. WE: i also focused on the beer...
