my biggest ikea disaster was a few years ago when i went to one of the chicago locations to stock up for my apartment. i needed shelves really bad so i bought this cheap set. i get home and try to put it together and what did i do? i only picked up one of two necessary boxes for the shelf set. so i had the metal shelf frame, but no actual shelves. dammit. of course ikea was 5 hours away so there was no way i was going back any time soon. big waste of money.
one of my favorite things about ikea is going to the ikea restaurant for the swedish meatballs. i love those things. yes they are kind of oily and covered in a heart attack inducing sauce but i do not care. they are tasty and satisfying and pop in your mouth awesome. at ikea, you can get 15 (yes they count them out) swedish meatballs, yummy red skinned mashed potatoes, and lingonberry (what the hell is a lingonberry?) sauce for only $4.99. for another $1, you can add on 5 more meatballs if you want. this is a damn good deal.
ikea has other foods but i am so addicted to the swedish meatballs that i have never tried any of them. they do have a wednesday rib special (1/2 rack of ribs, cornbread, and fries for $7.99) which sounds good but honestly i will probably never get around to trying it.
the ikea restaurant is pretty much just a really big cafeteria decorated ikea style. it has nice big windows which give you a lovely view of the massive parking lot and the rolling hills (ha) of west chester. the service is fine. it's very clean.
there is really no reason to make a special trip all the way to west chester for the meatballs, but if you are at ikea you should stop by. tell them liz sent you. that will mean nothing to them, but it will be funny when you say "liz sent me" and they give you a blank stare.

I went last Wednesday for BBQ ribs. It's totally worth it!
I have a sad, sick love for Ikea meatballs. They are so strangely good. (I like to buy the frozen ones and take them home, too.)
I was deathly ill after eating one of the multigrain vegetable wraps at IKEA Orlando. I live in Savannah, GA and had to stop several times to vomit profusely! Believe me, it was definitely the wrap that sickened me. I think I determined it was the sprouts that were less than fresh in the wrap. Learned a valuable lesson that cheap isn't always smart when it comes to food.
