weekend in chicago
i spent last weekend in chicago for the wedding of my friends christine and nate. i was a bridesmaid and despite my fears it turned out to be so much fun. i caught up with old friends, met new friends, explored the city, got drunk off my ass, and stuffed my face. now that is what i call a perfect weekend. here are some photos to recap:
before leaving cincinnati i picked up some treats for lavine at take the cake
dinner with sarah and lavine at maiz... crazy good mexican
caffe gelato has the best gelato in chicago. get the coconut and then you can die happy.
oh hot doug's, you complete me. i am a chicago hot dog connoisseur and this is hands down the best chicago dog i have ever had. the spread, clockwise from top left: chicago dog, bacon cheeseburger sausage, duck fat fries, blt sausage, chicago dog. oh my god i am hungry just looking at this.
off the hook prosciutto at the rehearsal dinner at a mano... just one of many amazing courses
the happy couple
best wedding meal ever... juicy, flavorful chicken, potatoes au gratin, and one of the best crab cakes of my life, all floating in a delicious buttery sauce
the vegetarian meal? also delicious!
me with renee, who is nate's sister and also quite possibly the world's best baker. i am recruiting her to join diego's pastry empire, and i am also using this forum to publicly announce that i demand a 15% cut of all profits from their future chicago baked goods dynasty.
the next day... more hot dogs, this time from portillo's. it's tasty but it's no doug's. still, i can't argue with a chicago dog in any form.
i can't remember the last time i went to chicago and didn't eat at tango sur. it's cheap, it's delicious, it's byob. there's almost always a long wait but it's totally worth it. (sorry, we ate too fast for me to get a pic of the food.)
champagne at pops was the perfect way to end the weekend, or at least it was after the bitchy waiter's attitude magically improved when i made a comment about how i was going to be "writing about this." hahaha.

No breakfast or brunch? I love breakfast in Chicago. Sounds like you did quite well though, and the wedding food looked great.
Cheers
