eat this now: salted rye at skirtz & johnston

like everyone else i have been peeping in the windows at skirtz & johnston every time i have been to findlay market for the past few months, only to pass it up for gelato or rib tips or a waffle or all of the above. today my friend christine was visiting and we were feeling adventurous (and we had to go to the bathroom) so we went in.

mr. t says, "low carb diet? i pity the fool!"

on the counter they had big plates of fat, tempting slices of bread, including this salted rye. i have been obsessed with salted rye ever since the first time jesus brought it into my life at the st. john white oak fish fry last year. well that salted rye was nothing compared to this. soft, chewy, salty, caraway seedy... YUM. we also tried the roasted garlic asiago bread (delicious) and ogled the desserts (beautiful) but this salted rye stole my heart. you must eat this bread.

Rib tips? Where do you get rib tips at Findlay Market? Mr Pig (Paul Sebron) passed away three years ago - is the business still operating?

I love Skirtz & Johnston. I've tried just about every cake that they offer, but their lemon cake & cannoli really stand out to me. I'l have to try the salt rye next time I'm there.

After a long, long wait for a permit, some exhaust system work was completed for Pho Lang Thang at Findlay Market on Wednesday, Sep 8. Hope they'll be open soon.
