i am very cheap when it comes to technology. some of you may have noticed that i am suddenly a much more prolific blogger than i was for the past few months. that is because my laptop was dying and i was too cheap to get a new one. so i just used the internet at work. finally i got a new laptop a couple weeks ago once i could not stand it anymore.
i also do not feel like paying for cable. this is not a huge deal for me since i don't care about most tv. but the things i do miss are brain-frying reality shows (such as real housewives of the oc, tila tequila, and anything involving flavor flav), the daily show/colbert report, and most importantly the food network.
when i lived in astoria, it was my regular routine on sundays to sit in the living room watching the food network and reading the NY times for hours. usually alex and lina and maybe k would join me. alex would bitch about ina garten. lina would cook something delicious. k would bring donuts and coffee and a crazy story about her roommate. this is how i spent pretty much every sunday for years and i was happy.
ever since moving to cincinnati, my routine has just not been the same. for a while, i bounced around between various living situations. yes, i had cable, but my roommates were either crazy and annoying or just not into it. also, i could no longer afford NY times home delivery (well who am i kidding, i just poached alex's before) and brunch delivered to my front door was not an option anymore.
when i moved to my current apt, i decided to give up cable since all i had was a crappy 13 inch tv and it is too expensive for me to pay for on my own. i went through food network withdrawal for a while, but i mostly got used to it, although i never really got over missing it.
fast forward to today when i just randomly turned on the tv to cet (the local pbs station) and found a cooking show on tv. joy!!! i made myself an espresso, grabbed a new yorker (i still have not been able to wean myself off of that), and settled in. and so my faithful readers, i present for you the weekend cet food show schedule here in cincinnati:
saturday:
11:00: victory garden
11:30: everyday food
2:30: america's test kitchen
3:00: amy's table
sunday:
12:30: everyday baking
1:00: amy's table
now, there is still no real comparison between this schedule and the good 4 hours i used to spend with giada, ina, bobby, tyler, and paula, and i continue to remain frustrated by the cold shoulder given to rick bayless, and i also miss having roommates to join in with me, but i will take what i can get. yay for food shows!
